VR: Stasi Prototype

Work I completed for a prototype funded by Robert-Bosch Stiftung and produced by VRagments and Deutschlandradio. The long-term goal is to combine authentic recordings of a Stasi (the GDR’s internal security office) interrogation with a VR experience. The scene shown here is an accurate depiction of an 80’s era interrogation office in east Berlin.

Platforms were iPhone and  Android/Google Cardboard, so performance-tweaking was priority number 1. This entailed a lot of texture-atlassing and shader optimization, as well as mostly static lighting, among other restrictions.

You can download the prototype for iPhone here, for Android here. Deutschlandradio created a little sub-site for the project here. Finally, read about the production process on VRagments site here!

This summer, we took part in a panel on the subject during this year’s Re:Publica conference. Jana and Stephan were also interviewed by dctp, check the video here (german language).
